Bodoni

Class Project

Type Specimen Book

For this project, I designed a type specimen book celebrating the timeless elegance of Bodoni. Chosen for its sophistication and rich history, Bodoni is a serif typeface originally created by Giambattista Bodoni—an Italian typographer, type designer, and composer—in Parma, Italy, in 1798.

Bodoni was inspired by the Baskerville typeface but elevated it by amplifying the stroke contrast and aligning it to a vertical axis. Its defining features include flat, bracketed serifs, extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes, and a geometric precision that exudes refinement and balance.

This project allowed me to explore the intricate details and enduring beauty of Bodoni, bringing its legacy to life through a modern lens.
